Max. size:  100 cm SL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 21 years
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 70 - 1013 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: British Isles to Senegal, including the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found from shallow, inshore waters to 650 m depth. Maximum depth range at 1013 m in the eastern Ionian Sea (Ref. 56504). Feeds on nekton, mainly fishes (4712).
