Max. size:  14.95 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 120 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: mainland New Zealand and the Auckland Islands.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs near piers and wharves to offshore depths of 62-120 m. Specimens have been taken over bryozoan and coarse shell bottom; juveniles in surface plankton tows. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be brooding at 9.95 cm SL.
