Family:  Phosichthyidae (Lightfishes)
Max. size:  9.1 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 300 - 750 m
Distribution:  Atlantic Ocean: St. Helena Island and western equatorial Atlantic.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-14; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 13-17. Brown-yellow in color, flanks silver; fin bases and edges of scale pockets black; dorsal and ventral adipose fins present (Ref. 3988).
Biology:  Mesopelagic species, adults mainly found at depths between 500-750 m (Ref. 3988).

Threat to humans:  harmless
