Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 7 - 8.5; dH range: 8
Distribution:  North America: Atlantic slope, endemic to the upper Verde River and the Laguna de la Media Luna systems of the Panuco River basin, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs sympatrically with C. labridens. Inhabits rivers and lagoons. Feeds on other smaller fishes, aquatic insects, algae and other invertebrates. Omnivore, egg layer, needs plant and rock cover, not easy to raise in tanks (Ref. 6398).
