Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Corinae
Max. size:  23 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 27 - 190 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: North Carolina (USA), Bermuda, and northeastern Gulf of Mexico to Yucatan, Mexico. Also recorded from Margarita Island, Venezuela (Ref. 9626). Reports from Brazil (Ref. 40101) refers to .H. sazimai (O. Luiz, pers.comm. 04/10).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits deep reefs (Ref. 9710). Traded as an aquarium fish at CearĂ¡, Brazil (Ref. 49392).
