Family:  Melanotaeniidae (Rainbowfishes, blue eyes)
Max. size:  9 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 7.80000019073486; dH range: 10; depth range 10 - 10 m
Distribution:  Oceania: known only from Lake Wanam, a roughly circular lake situated on a small plateau 24 km west of Lae, Papua New Guinea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 6-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-11; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 18-21
Biology:  Inhabits a high altitude lake (150 m). An egg layer, omnivorous and peaceful community fish which prefers the following aquarium conditions: pH=7.8, H=15, 29°C water temperature, and rocks, vegetation and driftwood cover (Ref. 6398).
