Family:  Blenniidae (Combtooth blennies), subfamily: Salariinae
Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range 1 - 30 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: New York to eastern coast of Florida.
Diagnosis:  Brown with wavy dark and light lines and spots along side (Ref. 26938). Compared with C. longimaxilla, maxillary length usually less than 15.5% and has 12 gill rakers (Ref. 43469).
Biology:  Adults are commonly found in oyster beds and on hard bottom, retreating, in winter, to deeper water. Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive (Ref. 205), and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal (Ref. 94114). Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters (Ref. 94114).
