Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Corantijn, Suriname, and Maroni River basins.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs over sandy and rocky bottoms. Has a very protractile mouth which allows it to dig in the sand for organisms on which it feeds. Oviparous (Ref. 205). The juveniles are often found in tributaries which may be very distant from the main river beds (Ref. 12225).
