Family:  Bathygadidae (Rattails)
Max. size:  56.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: southern Japan and northeastern Taiwan.
Diagnosis:  Head moderately wide, longer than 1/2 length to vent. Snout low, broad, longer than or as long as orbit; width at frontal margin of orbit much narrower than preocular length. Orbit large. Mouth terminal and lateral, no chin barbel. Teeth minute, rather conical in shape, set in broad band on premaxillary and in narrow band on dentary. Scales cycloid. Mandibular ramus with double scale rows (Ref. 54421).
