Environment:  pelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Madre de Dios River basin.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-10; Anal soft rays: 11-18. The absence of a distinct, anteriorly-expanded, dark stripe on the ventral portions of the body immediately dorsal of the anterior branched anal-fin rays distinguishes Attonitus bounites from Attonitus irisae and Attonitus ephimeros (Ref 53400).
