Max. size:  100 cm SL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 8,500.0 g; max. reported age: 33 years
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 20 - 1200 m
Distribution:  North Pacific: Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk north to the Anadyr Gulf, through the eastern Bering Sea to the Aleutian Islands and the Shelikof Strait in Alaska.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 98-116; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 76-94. Mouth very large; gill rakers slender; caudal fin strong and lunate (Ref. 559).
