Remarks 'eel' from Middle English, 'ele', from Old English 'ael' and akin to Old High German, 'ãl' (Ref. 11978); 'cusk', i.e., large edible marine fish related to the cod, also burbot, probably an alternate of tusk (a kind of codfish) (p. 317, Ref. 11919).
